VIENNA'S
Climate action
resources

Did you know that we've already bent the curve of future global warming down significantly?

That solar, wind, and battery installations have grown so quickly that energy industry forecasters kept getting it wrong - even Greenpeace?

This story is still being written. There are millions of people working hard to turn the tide on climate and build a better world.

Despair is a luxury. Don't doomscroll; pitch in!

Remember...

Start with joy.

Burnout helps no one. Where's your happy place? What do you enjoy being good at, or want to do more?

For me, I love hanging out with nerdy, undaunted-by-setbacks people, and playing "concierge" to introduce friends to cool stuff - and I've found abundant chances to do both in the climate space.

Do you relish a good crafting or home improvement project? Enjoy hosting gatherings? Feel good helping friends and family with tech stuff? There's a way to channel that into climate action for sure.

Stack with other stuff in your life.

How could climate action combine with something you need or want to do anyway?

I'm hopeless with exercise, but I do bike everywhere (grocery day is the true workout). Electoral politics aren't my favorite thing, but it's how I show up for several causes I care about at once, including climate.

Could commuting by public transit become your book-reading time? Could you liven up the dinner rotation with new recipes? Or explore a much-needed career change by networking in climate fields?

Stop being one person.

You don't have to figure it all out yourself. And you definitely don't have to do it alone.

What groups could you join, locally or online? Who could you ask for advice, or to come along with you, or to hear how it's going? (Just talking about climate with people who know you makes a real difference.)

There’s never been a more exciting time to work on climate. We’ve got momentum and solutions; we just need more people like you to find your niche and pitch in. With your help, soon even people who don’ t care will be living climate-friendly lives anyway.

Here’s what I recommend as a super-practical checklist to get started (U.S. centric):

Find a vegan (plant-based) dinner that your whole household likes to eat.

"Just happens to be vegan” dishes like pasta e ceci are great. Not ready for full vegan? Go for lower-carbon animal protein.

Experiment with replacing a car trip with public transit or biking (perhaps by test-riding an e-bike).

Try out a portable induction cooktop.

Some folks end up making it their everyday cooktop, sitting on their now-unused stove.
